Half of the smartphone market in 2013 was for Samsung and Apple, but the Chinese are coming

Analyst firm Strategy Analytics conducted a study of the global smartphone market in the fourth quarter of 2013.

According to the results , Samsung holds a leading position , while Apple belongs to the second place . According to information received , the market share of the American manufacturer declined despite huge sales iPhone. Let me remind you , the company announced the implementation of its 51 million smartphones during the period.

Let's look at a more precise figure . At the moment, Apple's share of the global smartphone market is 17.6 %, which is less than 4.4 units compared with the fourth quarter of 2012 . In turn , the share of Samsung contrary rose to 29.6% , or 0.6 % , over the same period compared to last year. According to Strategy Analytics, in the last quarter of last year, Samsung shipped 86 million smartphones (compared to 63 million in Q4 2012 ) . Although Apple has also seen growth in the number of devices sold - from 47.8 million in the last quarter of 2012 to 51 million in the same time period in 2013. ( Author's note - note that in the first case it is set to market the device in the second - about sold . How Samsung smartphones sold in the declared - is unknown. Detailed statistics strange question I discussed in a related article . )
Over the year, Samsung shipped 319.8 million smartphones , is a tremendous growth in comparison with the previous year ( 213 million ) .
IPhone sales in 2013 account for 153.4 million units compared to 135.8 million a year earlier. In 2012, the Korean company has shipped 32.3 % of all smartphones sold on it , while Apple's market share was equal to 15.5%.Actually, last year especially , nothing has changed - the leaders remained in their places , though the numbers have grown , and as the mobile market itself .

Despite serious competition from Chinese and American brands, Samsung continues to produce numerous models that become hits , such as , Galaxy S4 or Note 3 . Indices of Apple rose by only 13% for the year . Company delivered only 153.4 million smartphones worldwide in 2013 , when it owned it a market share of 15%. Moreover, its share decreased from 19% in comparison with 2012 . Of course, Apple remains the leader in the segment of expensive smartphones , but the lack of low-cost variant of its production costs of loss of customers , particularly in emerging markets such as India .

Great promise , according to analysts , open on newcomers in the industry, such as Huawei, LG and Lenovo. Each of them has increased its market share in the fourth quarter of 2013. At the expense of democratic and competitive prices functionality of their products , these companies have acquired in the aggregate 14 % of the market in the last three months of last year .
In third place , just behind Apple in the list of Strategy Analytics is Huawei. In the fourth quarter of the 2013th , the manufacturer has put 16.6 million smartphones ( figures for the same period in the previous year - 10.9 million ) . On account of LG and Lenovo - 13,2 m and 13.6 million , respectively. In general , for the 2013 calendar year, Huawei, LG and Lenovo put 50.4 million , 47.6 million and 45.5 million smartphones , respectively.

And Samsung, and Apple put together around the world for nearly half of all smartphones sold in 2013. Budgets scale marketing campaigns , numerous distribution channels and attractive features of their devices did both manufacturers industry leaders smartphones. But it is obvious that they have a more competition among the less popular brands .
Linda Sui , senior analyst at Strategy Analytics

Overall, global smartphone shipments in 2013 amounted to 990 million units. This is a significant increase compared with 2012 , while the market has got 700.1 million smartphones.
