Broadcom announced a new chip Wi-Fi with support for 802.11 ac

Apple often uses the latest technology in their devices , even in cases when users this is not yet ready.

So it was with Thunderbolt and what happened with Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. Last protocol appeared in all computers Apple, published last year. A similar standard is reasonable to expect in mobile devices, but no iPhone, iPad not received any new high-speed Wi-Fi chip. But this year, things can change. One of the main partners of Apple's wireless modules , Broadcom, has introduced a new chip with Wi-Fi 802.11 ac.

The new chip Broadcom BCM4354 received serial number and is the world's first system on a chip for smartphones with support for 2 × 2 MIMO and Wi-Fi 802.11 ac. The last two technologies provide twice the data rate increase and 25% lower power consumption . Earlier some smartphones already been implemented 802.11 ac, but the decision Broadcom first among those that support the transfer of data from the two channels. Thus, the aggregate data transfer rate can be up to 867 MB / s .

The technology involves the use of MIMO separate antennas for transmitting and receiving data, and has already been implemented in the iPad Air and Retina iPad mini, but there it was just about a pair of antennas , while the BCM4354 supports two antennas for incoming and two outgoing . Hence the specification of 2x2 MIMO.

Apple has used the Broadcom solutions in the past year to support Wi-Fi 802.11 ac in the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro display Retina, iMac, Mac Pro, as well as the lineup Airport. With high probability it can be argued that the new Broadcom BCM4354 chip will be used in iPhone, iPad and Apple TV new generation that will appear this year.
