Huawei’s designs haven’t exactly been superb over the past years, unless you count the Huawei P9
and P9 Plus, that are really well done, but the Mate series could’ve been more inspired.
Anyway, Huawei Mate 9 just leaked in renders and since concept phone designers have been out for the holidays, we thought we’d dissect this Mate for you.
Meant for an unveiling this fall, the smartphone integrates a dual camera setup, but this time vertically, not horizontally like the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus. This combo supposedly includes two 20 megapixel shooters, by the way. The Mate 9 is going to be quite the phablet, with a 5.9 inch display and a metal chassis, that’s rounded and feels pretty standard and bland in my view.
I see that there are two grilles at the bottom and as usually the jury is out on whether or not both are speakers or one is just a placeholder. The back is curved and there’s a certain seriousness about this design, that makes it look like a business device rather than a playful smartphone. Expect laser focus,
fast charging and a fingerprint scanner here.
An IFA unveiling is not out of the picture.
