The Motorola Moto X 2016 has been rumored and leaked a few times, but the motherload of leaks came
via Evan Blass and Venture Beat, who published the render below. Following it are are a series of images that preface the thing the device is all about: modularity and a youthful design.
We find out that the Moto X flagship this year will actually be two separate models. They’ll be all metal smartphones with modular back plates. The handsets are codenamed Vertex (left side) and Vector
Thin (right). They’ll get an ecosystem of modular back plates, that add extra functionality. There are 5.5 inch AMOLED screens on board, but the Vector Thin offers a Quad HD screen, while the Vertex has a Full HD one.
There’s also a Snapdragon 820 CPU on the first model and a Snapdragon 625 chip on the second. Vector Thin will come with 32 GB of storage, as well as either 3 or 4 GB of RAM, while the Vertex starts off with 16 GB storage and 2 GB of RAM. Vertex has a 16 megapixel camera with laser focus and phase detection autofocus, while Vector opts for a 13 MP shooter with laser AF, but also OIS.
The incredible factor comes from the Vector Thin waistline, a crazy 5.2 mm, that sounds very hard to achieve. The modularity comes from the 16 holes seem at the back of the phone. They are connection pints for modular backplates. 6 modules are already prepared, going as Amps. They’ll include stereo speakers, a battery pack, a camera grip with flash and optical zoom, a pico projector and a rugged cover with wide angle lens.
I have to admit this sounds amazing!
